It was a typical autumn morning when I got the call. My boyfriend, Jack, was on the other end of the line, and he sounded panicked. “Margot, I need your help,” he said urgently. “I’ve gotten myself into some trouble and I don’t know what to do.”
I could hear the fear in his voice, and my heart went out to him. “Anything, Jack,” I told him. “Just name it.”
“I’m in over my head with gambling debts,” he confessed. “If I don’t pay them back soon, they’re going to kill me.”
I didn’t know what to say. I had no idea how to help him – I didn’t have that kind of money. But then he said the words that would change everything: “There’s only one way out, Margot. You have to get rid of the baby.”

John was unhappy in his marriage and he told Margot that he was planning on getting a divorce.Margot believed him and waited patiently for him to leave his wife. But months turned into years and John showed no signs of leaving his wife. Finally, after much deliberation, John made his choice – he would stay with his wife. Devastated, Margot ended things with John. It was the hardest thing she’d ever done, but she knew it was for the best.
Rafael had always known that his relationship with Elena was forbidden. They were from different worlds – he a poor, street-wise artist and she the daughter of a wealthy family. But they couldn’t help falling in love with each other.
Now, after months of hiding their relationship, they had been caught and Elena’s father was demanding that she end things with Rafael or be disowned.
Elena was torn, but Rafael knew what he had to do. He loved her too much to see her give up everything for him. So he told her to go back to her family and forget about him.
It broke his heart to let her go, but it was the only way to keep her safe.
